Insíonn an leabhar álainn gleoite seo scéal pobail ó ré atá imithe go deo ach, ainneoin gach tuair, a bhfuil an Ghaeilge fós beo ina measc inniu. Faighimid scéalta anso ó Ghaeltacht na nDéise, ó dhuine is fiche a rugadh sa chéad leath den bhfichiú haois, ar nósanna agus traidisiúin, ar phiseoga agus cleachtais a n-óige. Comhar na gcomharsan ba bhun agus barr lena saol, pé acu ag saothrú na talún, ag deisiú líonta, ag ceiliúradh breith linbh nó ag caoineadh na marbh. Roimh theacht na nua-theicneolaíochta, chruthaigh an pobal seo a cuid siamsaíochta féin. Cuireann na cainteoirí síos go healaíonta dúinn anso ar shaol agus ar ré ná feicfear go deo arís. *** This beautiful book tells of a way of life which has now completely vanished. It is the tale of a Waterford coastal community where the Irish language has endured against all odds. During the first half of the twentieth century, neighbourliness and survival went hand in hand. Whether sowing crops, mending fishing nets, welcoming a newborn or lamenting the dead, all work was a communal act. The women harvested seaweed and planted potatoes while the menfolk went to sea. Without television or internet, and before the advent of modern technology, they created their own entertainment with singing, dancing, music and storytelling. In this volume, twenty one contributors keep us transfixed with their tales arranged marriages, evictions, ghosts, Fenians, holy wells, Strawboys, gun running and a wealth of customs and traditions.
